Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Leuko Pak / Whole Blood / Plasma / PBMCs
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, referred to as SLE or lupus, is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes systemic inflammation affecting multiple organs, including skin, joints, the central nervous system, the kidneys, the tissue lining the lungs (pleura) and the heart (pericardium). SLE person’s immune system attacks its own healthy tissues. Many patients experience fatigue, weight loss, and fever. SLE is eight times more common in women than men and often affects women of childbearing age. In most patients, the disease is inherited in a polygenic manner. Environmental factors including UV light exposure, Epstein–Barr virus infection and hormonal factors, might initiate the disease.
Leuko paks are obtained when they become available to our network of clinicians, by a donation process where blood is withdrawn from the donor via leukapheresis utilizing an apheresis machine such as the COBE Spectra Optia®. The donor’s white blood cells are selectively collected and the remaining blood is reinfused to the body. We can also collect whole blood and plasma samples from the patients. Some disease types may have a long backorder depending on the frequency of the disease occurrence in the general population.
HumanCells’ Systemic Lupus Erythematosus products are obtained from patient donors who are fully consented and IRB approved.
